The Main Contractor for the £14.9million contract is Shepherd Construction and the client is Wolverhampton City Council.
The striking new build project will replace the existing leisure centre in Bilston and will be the first permanent building of the £175million urban village project, a 100-acre development that will create a new urban community including homes, employment opportunities, a primary and community care centre, a new Academy school, parkland and a high quality pedestrian boulevard to link with the town centre.
The leisure centre is set to create a new landmark in the town with its contemporary curved structure and rows of floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
The centre will comprise an eight-lane, 25m swimming pool, studio pool, health and fitness suite, four squash courts, a sports hall, cafe and meeting room.
Once complete, in May 2011, the new facility will create 33 new full-time jobs.
The design process is now underway. F T Leisure will be providing water treatment and filtration systems for both pools, incorporating standard sand filtration and chemical dosing systems combined with UV. In addition, the studio pool contains our Aquaterr full pool moveable floor system.
