F T Leisure Limited was appointed by the main contractor (Cowlin Construction/Balfour Beatty) as the swimming pool specialists for the recently opened Plymouth Life Centre. Plymouth Life Centre is a flexible-use facility that will provide a premier venue for local, national and international sporting events. The four pool complex includes a 50m x 25m FINA standard main competition pool, a 25m by 15.5m competition standard diving pool, a freeform leisure pool and a separate bubble pool. F T Leisures scope of works included the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the water treatment and filtration systems for the four pools, the water features for the leisure and bubble pools, water supplies for two GRP flumes and a Diver Bubbler System. The filtration system is based on standard medium rate sand filtration with calcium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid, PAC and UV systems for maintaining water quality. The Diver Bubbler System, which is approved by the GB diving team, is designed as a safety mechanism for divers during training sessions. The system provides a soft water landing by creating a burst of compressed air at water level at the exact moment of impact. The Plymouth Life Centre will be a leading centre of sporting excellence in the South West and an official pre-Olympic Games training camp for the Canadian diving and Lithuanian swimming teams. The diving pool will be used by Tom Daley for training and, in April 2012, was host to the British Gas Elite Junior Diving Championships where Tom won the 10 metre platform title by a margin of 140 points. F T Leisure specialises in the provision of innovative products and professional technical services to the commercial, municipal and private swimming pool industries. Their range of services includes the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and/or refurbishment and maintenance of water treatment and filtration systems, moveable floors, booms and disabled access platforms, ozone and UV sterilisation, wave machines and leisure water features.
