Tameside Wellness Centre is a new community centre in the small town of Denton, operated by Tameside Active, the leisure sector of Tameside Council. Located 10 minutes outside Manchester City, this centre is designed to provide sports, physical wellness and mental wellness facilities to the local community.

The swimming pools are the focus of the building, but the client’s concept was to create a place where people of all ages and abilities can gather, whether it be for relaxation, for sports and exercise or even to just socialise with other members of the community. In addition to the pools, there is a bowling alley, café, gym with the latest technology and a rooftop training and relaxation area.

The centre is equipped with an 8-Lane competition pool, with Myrtha headwall and Track Start blocks, plus a 17m multi activity pool. The main pool has bespoke markings on the floor for Octopush training and competitions. The multi-activity pool contains a moveable floor system and various accessibility solutions, including self-depositing steps and an integrated disabled access platform. These pools have been designed to enable all types of swimming and aquatic activities, from competitions to disabled hydrotherapy sessions. The client believes in “inclusion” for everyone; FT and Myrtha worked hard on bespoke solutions to ensure we meet their requirements.
